What is Venture Capital Investment Class
Venture capital is a type of private investment in the shares of unlisted businesses. It is similar but separate from private equity which is where an investor takes a controlling stake in a firm, and is involved in its management and strategic direction.
Investors can participate in this investment activity either
by making a large direct investment into the company during a round of funding
or by investing in a venture capital fund.
A venture capital fund will pool investor monies and invest
in a variety of small to medium sized businesses. Businesses of this nature
have higher risks but also higher rewards.
An investor in a private business is unlikely going to see
any form of return until their stake is sold to another party or until the
company participates in initial public offering.
